Threat Detection Engineering

Better detection starts with better engineering.

Having security monitoring tools is not the same as having effective detection. CyKnox improves telemetry coverage, tunes detection logic, closes alert quality gaps, and makes your monitoring something the team can actually trust and act on.

Who this is for

Detection gaps are not always obvious until something happens. These are the signals that a detection engineering engagement is overdue.

Alert volume is high but signal quality is too low to trust
The team does not have confidence in current detection coverage
Escalation paths are unclear or vary by who is on shift
Security tooling is in place but under-tuned and under-utilized
Detection rules have not been reviewed or updated in a long time
A recent incident revealed gaps in visibility that were not expected

What we improve

Detection engineering is not a single tool configuration. It spans telemetry, logic, escalation, and operational practice.

Telemetry coverage mapping across endpoints, cloud, and SaaS
Microsoft Defender and Sentinel detection tuning
SIEM rule logic review, consolidation, and improvement
EDR configuration and alert threshold optimization
Detection use-case design aligned to the real threat model
Escalation workflow design and documentation
Response playbook alignment with detection capabilities
Alert quality benchmarking and operating trust improvement

How detection engineering works

We start by reviewing what telemetry you currently collect, what detection rules are in place, and how the team receives and escalates alerts. This gives us a baseline - a factual picture of what is working and what is not.

From there, we map coverage against your actual threat model. Most organizations have gaps between what they could detect and what they are actually detecting. We identify those gaps, prioritize them by risk, and build or tune detection logic to close them.

We align detection improvements with escalation workflows and response playbooks so that when an alert fires, the team knows what to do with it. Better detection is only valuable if it leads to better response.

What you receive

Telemetry coverage gap map

Common questions

Do you work with specific SIEM platforms?

We have deep experience with Microsoft Sentinel and Defender, and work with other SIEM and EDR platforms. We assess what you have and work with it - we do not require a specific tooling choice.

Is this a managed detection service?

No. We improve how your detection works and how much your team can trust it. We do not provide ongoing monitoring, alert triage, or a managed SOC function.

How do we measure whether detection has improved?

We establish a baseline at the start of the engagement and measure against it. Improvements are tracked by alert quality, coverage gaps closed, and team confidence in escalation paths.

Can you build new detection rules from scratch?

Yes. Where existing rules are insufficient, we design and build new use cases based on your environment, threat model, and the telemetry available to you.

Detection that your team can actually trust.

Tell us what your current monitoring environment looks like. We will scope a detection engineering engagement that closes the right gaps.
